A dynamic course which gives our students just the boost they need to become more confident in their language skills. Our courses place a lot of emphasis on fluency, and our teachers use discussions, debates, games, role plays, as well as authentic learning materials appealing to groups. Lisa McHenry has been a teacher for over 25 years both in the U.S. and abroad. She got her start teaching ESL with us in 1987 in Japan. She began her ESL career as a classroom teacher and was promoted to Teacher Trainer in 1994. In 1996 she was promoted to Program Coordinator for the Torrance location. She has worked at Torrance since it opened and has had the opportunity to be the Academic Coordinator and now the Operations Manager of the school as well as a teacher.
Susan Miyake is a native of Southern California, and actually grew up in the Torrance area. Like Lisa, Susan has worked in the ESL field for nearly 20 years. She got her start teaching ESL in Japan before moving back to California. Susan has worked here at GEOS since 1999 and in 2014 was promoted to Head Teacher. Susan is an outstanding teacher and is very popular with students, her peers, and the staff.
Mimi Imamori is another ESL teacher who got her start overseas. She spent nearly 10 years living and working in Japan before moving to California. She started working for GEOS in 2004 and is a very energetic and interesting member of our team.
Gary Fessard joined our team in 2014. He has a degree in education and taught in public high schools before retiring from public education. He got involved with ESL through the South Bay Literacy Council. This organization helps both adults and children learn to read. His experiences working with the Literacy Council spurred his interest in teaching international students.
Betsy Kenoff-Boyd has been working with us since 2014 and got her start teaching ESL through her volunteer experience with immigrant assistance programs. She feel in love with teaching and since joining our team has been very motivating and supportive of all her students.
